Paver driveway installation

Paver & Stone Driveways

Transform your home's curb appeal with a stunning paver driveway. Built to last generations with Unilock products and expert installation.

Rhode Island's Premier Paver Driveway Experts

Your driveway is the first impression visitors have of your home. A cracked, stained concrete slab says one thing—a beautifully designed paver driveway says something entirely different. At Chris Vieira Construction, we specialize in creating driveways that combine stunning aesthetics with exceptional durability, engineered specifically for Rhode Island's challenging climate.

Why Choose a Paver Driveway?

A paver driveway isn't just an upgrade—it's an investment in your home's beauty, durability, and value. Here's why homeowners across Rhode Island are making the switch.

1

4x Stronger Than Concrete

Unilock pavers are engineered to be up to four times stronger than traditional poured concrete. This means your driveway can handle heavy vehicles, delivery trucks, and decades of daily use without cracking or deteriorating.

2

Freeze/Thaw Resistant

Rhode Island winters are brutal. Unlike concrete that cracks and asphalt that crumbles, interlocking pavers flex with the ground during freeze/thaw cycles, returning to their original position without damage.

3

Stain & Oil Resistant

Modern pavers feature built-in stain resistance against oil, grease, gasoline, and other automotive fluids. Spills wipe away easily, and if a paver does get damaged, individual units can be replaced.

4

Unlimited Design Options

Choose from dozens of colors, patterns, and textures to create a driveway that perfectly complements your home's architecture. From classic herringbone to modern linear designs, the possibilities are endless.

5

Increases Home Value

A professionally installed paver driveway significantly boosts curb appeal and home value. Real estate studies show paver driveways can add 5-10% to your property's value compared to basic concrete.

6

Eco-Friendly Options

Permeable paver systems allow rainwater to filter through, reducing runoff and helping to recharge groundwater. Many Unilock products also use recycled materials in their manufacturing.

Pavers vs. Concrete vs. Asphalt

See how paver driveways compare to traditional options. When you factor in longevity, maintenance, and curb appeal, pavers are the clear winner.

Asphalt:15-20 years

Strength

Pavers:8,000+ PSI
Concrete:2,500-3,000 PSI
Asphalt:~2,000 PSI

Freeze/Thaw Resistance

Pavers:Excellent - Flexes naturally
Concrete:Poor - Cracks over time
Asphalt:Fair - Crumbles at edges

Repair Method

Pavers:Replace individual units
Concrete:Patch or full replacement
Asphalt:Patch or resurface

Maintenance

Our Installation Process

A driveway is only as good as its installation. Our proven 7-step process ensures your paver driveway is built to last for generations.

01

Free Consultation & Design

We visit your property, discuss your vision, measure the space, and provide design recommendations tailored to your home's architecture and your budget. You'll receive a detailed proposal with material options and pricing.

02

Site Preparation

Our crew removes your existing driveway and excavates to the proper depth (typically 12-14 inches). We ensure proper grading for drainage, directing water away from your home and garage.

03

Base Installation

We install a compacted gravel base in multiple lifts, each layer compacted to precise specifications. This foundation is critical for preventing settling and ensuring decades of performance.

04

Edge Restraints

Sturdy edge restraints are installed around the perimeter to keep pavers locked in place. Without proper restraints, pavers can shift and separate over time.

05

Sand Bed & Paver Installation

A 1-inch layer of bedding sand is screeded perfectly level. Pavers are then laid according to your chosen pattern, cut precisely at edges and around obstacles.

06

Compaction & Joint Sand

The entire surface is compacted with a plate compactor to set pavers into the bedding sand. Polymeric joint sand is swept into joints and activated with water to lock everything together.

07

Final Inspection & Cleanup

We conduct a thorough walkthrough with you to ensure every detail meets our standards and your expectations. The site is cleaned, debris removed, and your new driveway is ready to use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Paver driveway costs typically range from $15-$30 per square foot installed, depending on the material chosen, complexity of the design, and site conditions. While higher than basic concrete ($8-$12/sq ft) or asphalt ($7-$13/sq ft), the lifespan of 25-50+ years and minimal maintenance make pavers more cost-effective over time. We provide free, detailed estimates tailored to your specific project.
A typical residential driveway (400-600 sq ft) takes 3-5 days from start to finish. This includes excavation, base preparation, paver installation, and cleanup. Larger driveways or complex designs may take longer. Weather can also be a factor—we don't install during heavy rain or extreme cold to ensure optimal results.
Paver driveways require minimal maintenance compared to other options. We recommend: sweeping periodically to remove debris, rinsing with a garden hose as needed, applying polymeric sand every 3-5 years, and optional sealing every 3-5 years for enhanced color and stain protection. If a paver ever gets damaged, it can be replaced individually.
Unlike poured concrete, interlocking pavers are designed to flex with the ground during freeze/thaw cycles. The joints between pavers allow for movement without cracking. Our proper base preparation also prevents frost heaving that causes concrete driveways to crack and buckle.
We recommend waiting 24-48 hours before driving on your new paver driveway. This allows the polymeric joint sand to fully cure and harden. After this period, you can use it normally—pavers can handle even heavy vehicles like delivery trucks and RVs.
Modern Unilock pavers feature built-in stain resistance. Most oil and fluid spills can be cleaned with mild detergent if addressed promptly. For sealed pavers, stains are even easier to manage. In worst-case scenarios, individual stained pavers can be flipped or replaced without affecting the rest of the driveway.
Yes! We use Unilock products which come with a transferable lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects. Additionally, we warranty our workmanship for 5 years. If any settling, shifting, or drainage issues occur due to installation, we'll address them at no cost.
Absolutely. We can match or complement existing hardscape features on your property. If your patio uses specific Unilock pavers, we can often source the same product. We can also create intentional contrast with coordinating colors and patterns for visual interest.
